About Us

SFU Marauders is a competitive, gender-inclusive team that travels to tournaments held in the U.S and across Canada. We dedicate our time to being the best while having fun!

THE BEGINNING

In fall of 2013, Christine Konrad, the first club president, established the third quidditch team in British Columbia. The team participated in their very first quidditch tournament with only a month and a half of practice, and placed third against five more experienced school teams.

Fast forward to spring 2014, the Marauders were invited to compete in Cinco de Mayo Cup held at Stanford University. The team battled fiercely against highly experienced teams from the U.S and greatly learned about the competetive nature of the sport.

THE MARAUDERS

In the summer of 2014, the Marauders were focused on becoming a competitive team and were starting to gain attention from the SFU community, even having the team featured as the cover story for the school newspaper. The team also had the opportunity to play against the national Australian and Belgian National teams, who had come to Burnaby for the 2014 Global Games.

Now with a year of experience, it became apparent that the Marauders could become a force to be reckoned with. It wasnt easy at first, as the team experienced alot of stuggle and road blocks after it's first season. There was no clear leadership for the team, but the foundations of the Marauders were laid thanks to its dedicated players, and all resources were committed to becoming a better team with each practice and tournament. Presidency was given to Talor Mykle-Winkler by the end of the 2014/2015 season, where she led the team to a respectable 4th place finish at the Quidditch Canada Nationals.

OUR VISION

As a developing and new emerging team, SFU Marauders strives to become one of the best quidditch teams in the northwest region. We want to inspire and enable our members to achieve excellence in the sport of quidditch and in life. We are a cohesive group of students who celebrate the diversity and the uniqueness of each individual in our team. Our aim is to maximize and utilize each person's skill to its fullest potential. Anyone who shares our goal to grow and learn as a team are welcome to join!
